    Course Overview
    The Food & Beverage course provides students with foundational and intermediate skills for work in the hospitality industry. Through progressive, hands-on training, students develop practical kitchen and service skills in a real working environment.
    Career Pathways
    Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in cafés, restaurants, and catering environments, such as kitchen assistant, service crew, or food preparation staff. The course also provides a strong foundation for further training in culinary or hospitality fields.
    What students will learn

    • Kitchen fundamentals and food hygiene
    • Knife skills and safe food handling
    • Basic cooking and food preparation techniques
    • Front-of-house service or back-of-house kitchen operations at Eat X Dignity Café
    • Time management and workplace organisation
    • Listening, observation, efficiency, and speed in a professional setting

    Skills Trainer
    Shennice A. Toh
    Shennice is a seasoned chef with over 9 years of professional experience, having created dishes for multiple cafés and restaurants. She was part of the team at Yellow Bricks Road Café, which won Best Café at the Time Out KL Food Awards 2015, and specialises in Western, Chinese, and fusion cuisine, as well as plated desserts.

    Course Overview
    The Baking course combines technical baking skills with business and communication training. Students learn the theory behind baking and apply their skills through hands-on production, selling baked goods to real customers and gaining exposure to basic entrepreneurship.
    Career Pathways
    Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles such as bakery assistant, pastry assistant, or production staff in bakeries and cafés. The course also builds a strong foundation for further training in baking, pastry arts, or small food-based entrepreneurship.
    What students will learn

    • Baking theory and kitchen safety
    • Preparation of breads and buns, biscuits and cookies
    • Advanced products including cakes, quiche, and pies
    • Cake decoration and product presentation
    • Costing, pricing, and basic price management
    • Pitching products, marketing baked goods, and customer communication
    • Selling products to customers in a real-world setting
    • Students also take part in a baking competition at the end of the course, allowing them to showcase their skills, creativity, and professionalism.

    Grace Chu is an accountant by training and an experienced home baker with many years of hands-on baking experience. She is skilled in baking a wide range of breads, biscuits, and desserts, with a particular specialty in sourdough bread, which she also bakes and sells.

    With 6 years of teaching experience at Dignity, Ms. Grace is known for her practical, efficient, and fast-paced teaching style. She places strong emphasis on cleanliness, discipline, and consistency, ensuring students learn professional bakery standards alongside essential baking skills.

    Course Overview
    The Hairdressing course provides students with practical skills and professional knowledge to work in a salon environment. Training is held at Cut X Dignity, combining hands-on practice with customer service and consultation techniques.
    Career Pathways
    Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles such as salon assistant, junior stylist, or haircare support staff. The course also lays the foundation for further training in hairdressing, colouring, and advanced styling techniques.
    What students will learn

    • Shampooing, washing, and basic hair drying
    • Introductory hair styling and blow-drying techniques
    • Basic haircuts for men and women, using clippers and scissors
    • Applying hair treatments and dye on a dolly head
    • Client consultation and professional customer service skills

    Christin Chong
    Christin Chong has over 10 years of experience operating her own salon and beauty parlour before moving into training at Dignity for Children. She is passionate about delivering quality customer service and is known as a friendly, focused, and supportive trainer who helps students build confidence and professionalism in a salon environment.

    Early Childhood Education
    Course Overview
    The Early Childhood Education program introduces students to child development, psychology, and practical teaching skills. Students gain hands-on experience in Dignity Preschool classrooms, learning to work with children and Montessori materials while developing skills applicable to teaching and other careers.

    Graduates are prepared for roles such as teaching assistants, preschool educators, or childcare support staff. The program also provides a strong foundation for further studies in education, psychology, or child development.
    What students will learn

    • Key child development and psychology theories
    • Reading, analyzing, and thinking critically about educational materials
    • Hands-on use of Montessori materials and workbooks
    • Creating educational resources for young learners
    • Observing classroom management and learning how to run a classroom
    • Developing practical skills in reading, observation, and report writing

    Skills Trainer
    Rem Ortega
    Rem Ortega graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of the Assumption, Philippines, in 1988 and worked as a staff nurse for 12 years. In 2004, she joined Dignity as a toddler teacher while completing a Montessori Diploma in Infant and Toddlers, combining her healthcare background with early childhood education.

    She is passionate about creating the right learning environment for young children and also serves as Dignity’s nurse, caring for the health and wellbeing of over 1,000 children. In her free time, Ms. Rem enjoys volleyball, dance and swimming.
